Label Text:A much beloved and celebrated fixture of the Toledo art scene for more than six decades, Edith Franklin was an accomplished artist whose practice centered on ceramics. In 1962 she was one of the participants in the Toledo Workshops. The transparent pale green color of these early pieces come from the #475 borosilicate glass marbles supplied by Johns-Manville Fiber Glass, Inc., Toledo, that were used for their ability to melt at low temperatures. Few of the objects made at the workshop survive due to improper annealing, but the workshop was, overall, considered a success and, along with two others, would prove to have tremendous impact.
