Label Text:Born in Ottawa, Ohio, Edwin W. Fuerst began taking courses at the Toledo Museum School of Design in 1927. In 1930 he joined Owens-Illinois Glass Company (O-I) where he served as head of the package design and sales manager. With the repeal of prohibition in 1933, there was an increased demand for sets like this cocktail shaker and glasses, and in 1935, Libbey Glass Company (then a division of O-I) hired Fuerst to create sleek new designs for tableware and barware to appeal to the modern taste for clean, simple lines with less decoration.
