Label Text:For millennia, glassmakers have aimed to imitate the appearance of naturally occurring rock crystal. In this sculptural work, Anna Dickinson refers to this long tradition. The cylindrical object is cast of transparent glass with intentional internal striations, veiling, and small air traps, recalling the appearance of “flawed” rock crystal. The interior is lined with a fitted cylinder of spun copper, its bright color visible through the thick glass wall.
DescriptionThe cylindrical object is cast of transparent glass with intentional internal striations, veiling, and small air traps. It has a recessed stepped base; the exterior wall of the body is cut with 24 identical vertical flutes. The straight walls and bottom of the interior is lined with a fitted cylinder of spun copper; its interior surface is oxidized to a dark brown finish. The exterior surface is left untreated, allowing the bright copper color to be visible through the thick glass wall.
