Label Text:Perhaps the most stylized of Ohara Koson’s prints with its almost abstract design and its striking contrast of black and white, this is also one of the artist’s most popular images. In the feathers of the bird, the printmaker used the technique of gauffrage—a form of embossing with the design imprinted into the paper without the use of ink.
