Label Text:With their basic flat-sided shape and elegant concentric circles motif of restrained Venetian filigree, this pair of wine decanters reflects the early Arts and Crafts Movement’s admiration for historic glass forms and decorations. Derived from Islamic models, these pilgrim flasks (so-called for their resemblance to vessels used by pilgrims to holy sites to contain sacred oils and other substances) with their silver stoppers in the shape of turrets added an Eastern flair to Victorian dining rooms. Such flasks often came in pairs and were purchased as wedding gifts.
