Label Text:As books and prints of travel and nature became popular items for the middle class during the second half of the 18th century, glasses and other decorative arts were manufactured in England with landscapes that reflected a romantic preoccupation with nature. The vignette on this goblet is painted in opaque enamels and features a shepherd and his flock within a landscape featuring a river or lake and a pyramidal tower probably representing a romantic architectural garden structure (called a folly).
