Scrolls often passed through many hands, and owners might inscribe a “colophon”—commentary, description, or information about the scroll or the owne—or mark the scroll with a collector’s stamp. This scroll has inscriptions by two self-described “mountain men,” who were possibly monks, and a poem by a scholar.
