Label Text:"When I painted the Constellations, I was very pessimistic. Everything seemed lost to me. When the Nazi invasion of France occurred [May 1940], and upon the victory of the Francoists [in Spain], I was certain they would not let me paint …I had a real feeling that I was working clandestinely, but this was a liberation for me as I was not thinking of the tragedy that surrounded me … I gave them very poetic titles … because there was nothing left in the world for me but poetry."
