Label Text:Looking knowingly at the viewer, Mary Stuck (1896–1961) was no stranger to modeling for her father, German artist Franz von Stuck. A jack-of-all-trades draughtsman, illustrator, caricaturist, printmaker, and painter—and a leading figure in avant-garde circles in Munich—von Stuck completed many portraits of his daughter Mary and other family members in a range of historical and contemporary costumes. Mary was about 16 when he painted this lively portrait of her.
