Label Text:The pronounced ribs of this elegant purple glass bowl generate an undulating effect that is enhanced by the vessel’s transparency, while the design terminates in the crisp rim of the bowl and the edge of its base. Josef Hoffmann (Austrian, 1870–1956) had a preference for stylistic simplicity and manufacturing integrity and consequently his designs were dominated by simple forms and devoid of added decoration. A similar ribbed design by Hoffmann had been executed in silver a few years before the glass bowl.
