Label Text:Corner Piece #1 is the visible result of the thinking, drawing, and building that Sol LeWitt engages in when he makes art. For him, the process of creative discovery is as important as the final product. As he explained in 1970, “These pieces are not sculpture; they are ideas made into solid forms.”

As in many of his structures and drawings, here LeWitt has multiplied one basic element, the cube. The deceptively simple construction presents a range of complex visual challenges based on logic, mathematical sequences, patterns, and repetition. What patterns can you detect? Based on how LeWitt stacked the cubes together, see if you can calculate how many make up the sculpture (you could just count them, but you might have to get down on the floor to see them all!).
