Label Text:Howard Ben Tré prefers glass to remain “murky” and dense, helping him achieve a glow and pattern of imperfections that impart an intriguing timelessness. In this purely sculptural work, made during a stint at the Blenko Glass Factory in West Virginia in the 1980s, Ben Tré combines power, vulnerability, and luminescence to create a work with a spiritual dimension. As with many of Ben Tré’s works, the form and tone is drawn from Gothic cathedrals, Greek temples, and Mayan ruins, and the work has a timeless quality that invokes the forms of an imagined civilization.
