The Razmnama is the Persian translation of the great Sanskrit epic the Mahabharata, which describes events that took place in ancient India. The story took its present form around 400 BCE. The epic is considered to be a major religious, historical, and literary work of the Hindu faith.

This scene depicts Yudhisthira, king of the Pandavas, sitting on his throne in an open air palace pavilion surrounded by attendants. He is receiving news of victory from his kinsman Sahadeva over their opposing cousins the Kauravas on day seven of an immense 18-day war for the kingdom of Kuruksetra in northern India.
