Label Text:John Whorf is considered one of the finest American watercolorists from the early 20th century. He began painting at the age of 14 in Boston with his father Harry C. Whorf, who was also an artist. He continued his studies in Provincetown, Massachusetts and Paris, France and finally with John Singer Sargent, who became his most important influence.

Wet Snow is a mature work by Whorf displaying authenticity and individuality in even the smallest detail, such as the man shoveling snow. The quiet and peacefulness of a New England village in the winter is beautifully illustrated in this watercolor.
