Label Text:Man Ray, known to have produced many self portraits, considered this image one of his most significant—so significant that he choose to include it in a 1934 publication of his best images. In the 1930s Man Ray did a series of solarized portraits of people he felt were particularly important—including writer André Breton and artists Marcel Duchamp, Méret Oppenheim, Lee Miller, and André Derain. He then did a solarized self portrait, placing himself in his own pantheon of great modern artists.
