Label Text:This is a portrait of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I (reigned 1493-1519), a man who was a patron of all of the important artists of his time. He employed Dürer, Hans Burgkmair, Albrecht Altdorfer, and Lucas Cranach among others. This portrait was published in 1518, when images of the emperor were in great demand.
