Label Text:In this early work, the scene is enclosed in an irregular architectural framework, focusing attention on the action within. Close examination reveals a variety of lines used to create texture and space. Here we see the influence of the painter rather than the goldsmith, who understands light as a function of texture, and texture as a principle objective to be sought in describing a surface.
