Label Text:Adolphe Appian was one of the greatest realist landscape etchers of the early 1860s. He had an outstanding eye for light, especially in his handling of the sky, which he expressed in his prints through deft control of line and bold inking. This print depicts the landscape near the French town of Rix, in the Bourgogne (Burgundy) region.
