A medium-sized shorebird with bright patterns, the Ruddy Turnstone forages—as its name suggests—by overturning stones and shells with its beak to find insects and other food. It breeds on the tundra and rocky coasts of the far northern reaches of North America. During spring migration it passes through parts of the eastern half of the U.S., including along Lake Erie.
