Label Text:In this image Benson concentrates on his fascination with flying ducks, depicting a flock of Long-tailed Ducks (formerly called Oldsquaws) gliding overhead, the long central tail feathers and contrasting black and white markings of the males clearly evident. As one critic wrote in 1915 of Benson’s duck prints, “The very ecstasy of flight is expressed in the swift gliding of these birds in the air. It is as natural as breathing; and to see them flying is to feel that you, too, could fly.”
