Label Text:William B. Post, who along with Alfred Steiglitz was a founding member of the Photo-Secession group, photographed the picturesque rural landscape of Maine for nearly two decades. Post’s aesthetic was particularly influence by the French Barbizon painters like Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796–1875); and like Corot, his meticulously crafted images of the natural world are subtle, poetic, and delicately understated.
