Label Text:Dubuffet's autograph text was produced by means of a stencil, and the relief prints were hand-printed from carvings and engravings on linoleum, boxwood blocks, and the wood from Camembert cheese boxes. This "publication" was deliberately unrefined and non-precious in choice of materials, technique, and nonsense content. This is copy # 12 of the edition of 20.

LER DLA CANPANE was originally created in 1948 by Dubuffet, who carefully hand-printed each page (with the assistance of his wife) on his dining room table. At that time Dubuffet made more images than he actually used in the final publication. This album presents all the vignettes originally destined for the earlier book. It is some what ironic that Dubuffet now chooses to preserve LER DLA CANPANE ,which was deliberately non-deluxe when it was first published, in this lavishly produced volume on special Richard de Bas Auvergne paper by Mourlot Freses, Paris. This volume is accompanied by an original woodblock (done on the bottom of a camembert cheese box) of three figures.
