Label Text:These volumes of 'Attic Nights' by Aulus Gellius, the Roman philosopher and man of letters, were once in Napoleon's library at La Malmaison (the favorite residence of the Empress Josephine). On the spines are the interlaced initials "P.B. (Pauline Bonaparte), signifying that these books were among those given to Napoleon by his sister.
