Label Text:The "Derome style" refers to a style of book decoration printed by the Derome family of France in the eighteenth century. The most famous of the family was Nicolas Denis Derome (active 1761- ca.1789). The Deromes achieved fame for their widespread use of the dentelle border. A dentelle border took its inspiration from embroidery and had a lacy look. When done in gilt, as here, the binding decoration was one of great richness.
