Label Text:Stephen Day set up the first press in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1638, producing its first book in 1640. 'The Whole Book of Psalmes' (Bay Psalm Book). After 1649, this press operated by Samuel Green, with Marmaduke Johnson, printed this major project, Eliot's Indian translation of the Bible. 'The New Testament' exhibited here, was completed in 1649; the printing of the entire Bible was finished in 1663. This Bible was the first whole Bible to be printed in the western hemisphere, and the first one in the Indian language.
