Label Text:This rare binding, beautiful in spite of the ravages of time, was made for James VI of Scotland, as the central Latin inscription "REX JACOBUS, 6 SCOTORUM" attests. James VI (1566-1625), succeeded the throne of England in 1603 as James I, the first Stuart king of England, and the first king to rule both England and Scotland.
