Label Text:This book is bound in an Eve style binding. Nicolas Eve (active 1578-1582) and his son (or nephew) Clovis Eve (active 1584-1635), were court binders to Henri III (reigned 1574-1589). Clovis was also court binder to Henri IV, and Louis XIII. They originated the style of tooled decoration known as "Fanfare", consisting of combinations of spirals, Laurel and palm branches, small flowers, fleur-de- lis, and other oraments entwined, as can be seen here.
