Label Text:Francis Bedford was the foremost nineteenth century English binder. His work was considered unsurpassed by any of his contemporaries. His designs were generally adapted from earlier binding, but his perfection of execution placed him in the top rank of modern bookbinders. This sumptuously bound volume is a magnificent masterpiece of Bedford's binding. He bound it specially for display at the 1862 International Exposition at London.
